Frequently Asked Questions
When should I take an Aperitif?
15 - 20 minutes before eating or drinking high histamine food or drink. Please see the product labelling for a more detailed description.
How many capsules are in a pouch?
An Aperitif refill pouch contains 60 enteric-coated capsules. Each capsule contains 4.2mg of the DAO enzyme and 12mg of vitamin C.
Can I break the capsule instead?
Try not to. The capsule that houses the ingredients is specially designed to resist stomach acid with it's delayed release technology. This ensures the active ingredients are released at the correct PH level in the intestinal tract.
Is Aperitif suitable for vegetarians?
No, the DAO is naturally derived from porcine. Aperitif Veg will launch in the coming months. Subscribe to our newsletter to keep up to date.
What are the ingredients in Aperitif?
Aperitif is made from the highest quality ingredients, in accordance with strict standards. The formulation strives for the highest level of bioavailability and absorption.
The two key ingredient in Aperitif is a supplement form of diamine oxidase (DAO) and vitamin C (ascorbic acid).
DAO is an enzyme that naturally exists in everybody's gut, and ingested histamine intolerance is most often caused by a deficiency in this enzyme. Supplementing DAO can restore natural levels of the enzyme to help the body break down histamine in the gut.
Are there any side effects?
The ingredients in our supplement are generally considered safe when taken as per the directions. The DAO enzyme found in an Aperitif capsule remains in your digestive system, isn’t absorbed and is excreted if it’s not used to break down the histamine. It's recommended to consult with your healthcare professional before starting any new supplement, especially if you have any pre-existing conditions or are taking any medications. If you experience any side effects or allergic reactions, stop taking the supplement and consult your healthcare professional.
Where are the ingredients sourced?
All ingredients in Aperitif, including the gut resistant capsules, are sourced from the EU.
What about the production standards?
Aperitif is produced in accordance with European standards. The production is IFS GMP-certified (International Featured Standards for Good Manufacturing Practices). HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) is followed. Every step of the supply chain is controlled and inspected to ensure the highest quality - from sourcing the raw materials to the final product that we're so proud to call Aperitif.

What is histamine intolerance?
Histamine intolerance occurs when your body can't break down histamine properly. The main reason for histamine intolerance is a deficiency or inefficiency of the enzymes that break down histamine, particularly diamine oxidase (DAO).
